Creating, making, releasing – the perils of the creative life

Hey friend! 🙂

First up, apologies if you are receiving this in error. Please feel free to unsubscribe, but rest assured, I won’t send many!

I love this quote from Elizabeth Gilbert. It resonates with me:

“But to yell at your creativity, saying, “You must earn money for me!” is sort of like yelling at a cat; it has no idea what you’re talking about, and all you’re doing is scaring it away, because you’re making really loud noises and your face looks weird when you do that.”
― Elizabeth GilbertBig Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear

Now, let it be known that I never yell at my cat, and while I chastise my creativity in an almost scrupulous manner, I never really expect it will make any money. I am quite possibly the world’s worst business-woman.

But, about this quote; I like it so much I use it in my new book: Sing it Out: Finding Your Rhythm, Staying in Tune, Creating your Playlist and Writing Your Song.

The book is about creativity, with a particular focus on music. It officially launched last week, but I didn’t have a party. There is still some fear in launching one’s creations to the public. People might hate it. You might be one of those people. You might think it’s pithy, childish, naive, flawed. But, these are the perils of the creative life. Most creatives won’t make much money or feel successful in their lifetime, but there remains a spiritually-ordained call to still create, make, produce.

You will probably find mistakes too.

I still might have a launch party…. I’ve been promised a unicorn cake, so that’s an incentive.

In the meantime, the art is readily available all over the interwebs.

Many of you would have received my email last week called “So I made some art”. If you missed it, here are some details on how to order my book and CD (if you want to.)

CDs are $20 and can be ordered by emailing me Elisabeth_doherty@hotmail.com with your postal address, how many you want etc. I’ll send you an invoice and no need to pay unless you are able. You still get to keep the CD even if you don’t pay for it. #forthewin

Books are also $20. Same as above, they can be ordered by emailing me Elisabeth_doherty@hotmail.com with your postal address, how many you want etc.

If you buy both the book at the CD it’s $30.

Discounts for bulk orders.

All of the things are available electronically too, at these links:
